The group Čuki started in 1989. It was founded by Jože Potrebuješ and Marko Vozelj, who met during military service, and Vinko Cankar and Marjan Malovrh, who had previously performed occasionally together. Their first performance was on November 11, 1988. They performed as a trio without Marko Vozelj, who joined a year later. In 1990, they released their first tape entitled Na Licu Bela Solza, and a year later the tape Rdeča Mašna. 1992 was a turning point for Čuki. They created the song Krokodilčki and recorded their first music video for it. Later, they also recorded the compositions Vsepovsod Ljubezen, Ta vlak, Poletna and Hugo. In 1994, they created a music video for the song Zanzibar. It was one of the most expensive Slovenian videos at the time. The film was shot in three days at the Viba studio. The main roles were played by Jože Potrebuješ and Marko Vozelj. Friends and relatives of the group members also helped as extras. In total, it was created for 15 minutes of material. In 1995, Čuki recorded the hit Kavbojci In Indijanci, the video for which was directed by Branko Đurić - Đuro and was created in one shot on a lathe at the Litostroj factory. In the first decade, they received the popularity winner twice for the most popular musical personality or group - the first time in 1993, and the second time in 1995.
