古川展生


Nobuo Furukawa (古川展生), born on the 9th of May 1973 in Kyoto. He is a Japanese cellist and member of the band KOBUDO (古武道). He is currently signed with Columbia Music Entertainment. Nobuo began practicing the cello at an age of nine. In 1996 he enrolled at the Hungarian Academy of Music to study under professor Csaba Onczay thanks to the Meiji Yasuda Quality of Life Scholarship he received. In 1997 he took part in the International Instrumental Competition Markneukirchen and recieved a diploma. In 1998 he was appointed to the position of principal cellist in the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra (東京都交響楽団) and he remains to this day. In 2002 he performed with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (Wiener Philharmoniker) in Toyota Master Players in Vienna playing music composed by Joseph Haydn and Antonín Leopold Dvořák. In 1995 he formed the string quartet ARCO who in May 1999 took part in the 3rd Osaka International Chamber Music Competition and finished in a tie for 3rd place with the French string quartet Quatuor Psophos. In May 2007 he formed the band KOBUDO (古武道) together with Takeshi Senoo (妹尾武) and Dozan Fujiwara (藤原道山). Their first album, KOBUDO, was released on the 31st of May the same year. Nobuo also performs in the yearly Miyazaki International Music Festival. So far he has released 9 albums with 2 being in the best of form and an additional three as part of the group 古武道.
