Latibær

Latibær is an Icelandic childrens' show that began back in the early 90's and was founded by Magnús Scheving, creator of today's LazyTown. It all started with a 1997 stage play called Áfram Latibær! (Go, Go! LazyTown!). The play featured characters such as Solla Stirða (Stephanie), Siggi Sæti (Ziggy), Goggi Mega (Pixel), Nenni Níski (Stingy), Halla Hrekkjusvín (Trixie), Íþrótaálfurinn (Sportacus), Bæjarstjórinn (Mayor Meanswell), and Stina Símalína (Bessie Busybody), all characters we know now in LazyTown. (Other characters that were featured in the play that are not a part of today's LazyTown are Maggi Mjói [Jives, or Maggi the Skinny], Eyrún Eyðslukló [Eyrun the Money Waster], and Lolli Lögga [Lolli the Cop].) After the success of Áfram Latibær, another stage play was produced in 1999, Glanni Glæpur í Latabæ (Robbie Rotten in LazyTown). The characters appearances changed, as did the actors who played them. Only one character from the previous play was taken away from the show (Eyrún Eyðslukló), but the rest stayed. In 2001, a Latibær Christmas CD was produced by the title of Jól í Latabæ (Christmas in LazyTown). The entire CD tells a story that, obviously, takes place in LazyTown during Christmas. There was no stage play involved, but the CD was just as popular as the stage plays were, and eventually sold out. Most of the songs we know in today's LazyTown came from the songs used in the stage plays, such as 'Bing Bang', 'Get it Together ...
