FEM Prog Band is an Italian progressive rock group formed in 2007. The band emerged from the dissolution of various local projects and was originally known as La Forza Elettro Motrice. Their early performances featured cover versions of songs by leading Italian progressive rock acts as well as classic British prog bands. The group has cited a wide range of musical influences, including classical, jazz, gospel, and Renaissance vocal music. Founding members Alberto Citterio (keyboards) and Paolo Colombo (guitar) were later joined by Marco Buzzi (bass), formerly of a Metallica tribute band. The lineup stabilized with the addition of drummer Emanuele Borsati in 2009 and vocalist and classical guitarist Giacomo Balzarotti in 2010. Following these changes, the band shortened their name to FEM Prog Band and shifted their focus to original material, while maintaining a sound inspired by 1970s progressive rock. In 2011, they released a self-produced EP titled "Epsilon," which featured symphonic prog arrangements and introspective lyrics. FEM Prog Band has also developed a concept album titled "Sulla Bolla di Sapone" (On the Soap Bubble), based on a short story by German philosopher Kurd Lasswitz. The album was planned for future release as of the time of "Epsilon." The band continues to perform and develop music within the Italian progressive rock tradition. Read more on Last.fm.
