A-II-Z

A-II-Z were a NWOBHM group from Manchester. The original lineup consisted of Dave Owens on vocals, brother Gary Owens on guitar; Cam Campbell on bass and Karl Reti filling out the band on drums. Later Tony Backhouse & Simon Wright on bass and drums respectively joined the band. The band released their debut record The Witch of Berkeley in 1980. It was notable for being a live record, strange but not entirely unheard for an album. The band followed this up with a few singles, recorded in the studio this time. Treason, and I'm the One Who Loves You both saw the light of day in 1981. The latter being a notable departure from their sound, heading into a clear pop music direction. The band soon split, with most of the members going onto Aurora. Gary Owens and Simon Wright would later end up in the NWOBHM supergroup Tytan. Simon Wright would also later play with some of the biggest names in heavy metal, including Dio and AC/DC. Read more on Last.fm.
