Raz Mesinai (aka Badawi, SubDub, Ladyman) is one of the innovators of the NY school of experimental & contemporary dub music exists at the crossroads of composition, sound design, dance music and extended recording and performance techniques. His work under the monikers Badawi and SubDub was highly influential in contemporary dub music from the early 90's to mid 2000's in NYC. He created over a dozen albums of innovative compositions, stretched from experimental dance music to dub to horror film scores to complex contemporary electro-acoustic works. Mesinai began producing electronic music at the age of ten using 2 cassettes players, a turntable and a drum machine. He later became a percussionist, focused primarily on Moroccan, Algerian, Persian and Central Asian rhythms and instruments. When he was 16 he began DJ'ing in clubs in NY and also began producing his first Badawi tracks. Years later Mesinai developed his skills as a DJ and began a turntablist trio with DJ Olive and Toshio Kajiwara called ROTOR. Mesinai released his first records under the moniker Sub Dub with partner John Ward in '92. The released the self titled album (Sub Dub) on Instinct Records and later released two seminal ep's, Babylon Unite, Dawazangpo) on their own imprint.
