Breakwater
More than one artist/band carry the name Breakwater, including a 70's Philly funk act later sampled by Daft Punk, and a mid 90's era Canadian hardcore band. 1. Funk and soul American band from Philadelphia, formed in 1971. The band consisted of Gene Robinson, James Gee Jones, Linc 'Love' Gilmore, Steve Green, Vince Garnell, Greg Scott, John 'Dutch' Braddock, and Kae Williams, Jr. The band released two albums: Breakwater in 1978, and Splashdown in 1980. The latter features the song Release the Beast, which was sampled in 2004 by Daft Punk for their song Robot Rock. 2. Breakwater was an emo/hardcore band from Victoria, Canada. They combined that post-rock sound with soft-loud dynamics, the sound that bands like envy are getting famous for nowadays. The original line-up featured Dave Truscott (who also played in letters to the lord himself and Honeysuckle Serontina), Jode Shortreed (Republic Of Freedom Fighters, letters to the lord himself, Honeysuckle Serontina), Steve Simard (Republic Of Freedom Fighters) and Dave Wenger (Daddy's Hands, Ache Hour Credo, M-Blanket. This line-up released a Five-Song cassette in 1994. Two of these songs, Five and Seven, were re-released as Self-Titled 7 on Static (#001) in 1995. Dave was replaced by Carey Mercer (republic of freedom fighters, frog eyes, swan lake) in 1995.
