Lakissova

Jayne (actual name: Jevgenia) Lakissova, born in 1986 in Estonia, has been writing and performing music since she was so little (say, 3 feet tall). Jayne started Music School at the age of 5 and went on to perform with some bands in her teens. At Shabash, she was singing on national TV at age 15, but then she realized that her cup of Russian tea was not made of metal and went solo. Some say her voice and music is in ambiance and delivery a mixture of Edith Piaf and Kate Bush (the early years) via Björk but still all wrapped up with a style that is uniquely her own. Her music will “feel as equally at home wandering through the charts as it would in the soundtrack of a Tim Burton or Jean-Pierre Jeunet film. All coloured balloons that move against the wind. A Victorian Dolls museum at midnight. Music that reflects a woman with the child in her eyes. Very personal but somehow we feel we have all been here, it invites us back yet also warns us off.” Between 2004 and 2008, Jayne has recorded and mixed 11 tracks for her album La Poupee, about dolls. All the music and lyrics are composed by Jayne. It’s mostly in English, but a couple of songs are in French, as well, and one in Estonian. Guest musicians from Latvia and Estonia play live cello and violin on the record. Jayne has never officially released the album; however, she's glad to share it with anyone who is interested.
