Masrapa
Masrapa is the solo project of Cüneyt Sürme (* 3. March 1969, in Nigde, Turkey), a virtuosic guitarist with quite a history and following in his native country. He pretty much spent his whole adolescence playing all clubs from Antalya to Ankara together with his brother Bülent in ever changing band formations. Their most successful project was probably Circulus, a Funk Rock band with a very own musical style, which earned them a number of chart-breaking songs on the Turkish radio. Currently a resident of Germany, while embracing his oriental roots he pretty much feels a citizen of the western world, musically. His deepest inspirations being Jimi Hendrix, Richie Blackmore and Frank Zappa, Cüneyt calls his music a shake of these guys with an extra dash of Czigan sounds. Masrapa is the name of his experimental solo guitar project which he started in 2001 upon coming to Germany, processing the vast emotional impact of being a foreigner in a strange country. The musical result is vibrant with energy, emotion and nostalgia, all extremely soulfully played. Going instrumental with these recordings was a decision made to enable his audience to take out to their very own journey with each song. The tracks might have a very speacial meaning to Cüneyt, but so they would for the people listening, as long as they were not being led into a predefined direction through lyrics. By the way: every single Masrapa song does have a complete set of lyrics, only they are not presented upon ...
