Namenlos


There are multiple artists using this name. 1. Punk band from East Germany: Namenlos belonged to the first generation of punk bands in the DDR (communist East Germany), and they have been one of the bands that suffered most of repressions from the government, who was scared of these negative decadent youths and, by 1984, managed to pretty much destroy the blossoming underground scene. Singer Jana and drummer Mita had originally intended to form a girls band. As they couldn't find any, they formed their group with two guys, Frank and A-Micha, who had played in the first East Berlin punk band, Alternative 13, and later in Rosa Extra. Founded early in 1983, they immediately started performing. Originally they had intended to have no name at all to protect themselves from persecution by the (state security). Consequently, the band began to be called Namenlos (= Nameless), a name which they adopted. Unusual for many East German punk bands, their lyrics were openly and violently critical. Their songs reflect the bleak feeling of life in East Germany, and in Nazis in Ostberlin, they compare the communist government with the Nazi regime. The regime reacted quickly: August 1983, Jana and A-Micha were arrested, accused of debasing society and government institutions and convicted to up to 1 1/2 years of prison without probation; this was the beginning of a nation-wide persecution of punks.
