Nuju

Nuju was formed in early 2009 by Marco Ambrosi (guitar), Fabrizio Cariati (vocals, synth, guitar), Giuseppe Licciardi (bass guitar), Roberto Simina (percussions, harmonica and organetto) and Stefano Stalteri (drums), whom Roberto Virardi (accordion, guitar) joined along the way. The band wished to create a blend of authorial mood with that of Italian pop rock (world and ethnic) music. A similar mix was already attempted by various members of Nuju in their previous experiences with Rosaluna, Massa Furtiva and -Arangara. Nuju developed a sort of a musical research aimed at overcoming the stereotypes of folk rock and patchanka, with particular attention given to the lyrics. In October 2009 their first single, Voci di marinai, was released by Latlantide. In the same year, they won the Acusticamente - Città di Cervia prize in a Generazione Musicale a Progetto competition organized by Keepon and MEI (Meeting delle etichette indipendenti). In 2010 Nuju were among the 12 finalists of Primo Maggio tutto l’anno and won the Radici EtnoContest. The single Voci di marinai was elected the best Italian independent emerging song of 2010, according to the MEI. Their first album, of the same name, has been released by Latlantide on April 30, 2010. The second album, Atto secondo, was released in April 2011 by MK Records/VLC/Venus, obtaining excellent reviews and becoming record of the month in My on Caterpillar, Rai Radio 2 program.
