Oddballs

There are at least 2 bands that go by the name Oddballs 1. The band founded in 2008 described below 2. An experimental rock band from Los Angeles, California founded in 2019 by Jack McColgan (guitar, vocals) and Jasper Gabrielsen (drums) Oddballs were founded in 2008 by Darren J. Dix (keys/vox, Nicolai Prowse Allstars) / John Whitmore (drums) / Bob Ramone (guitar/vox, Millstone) / Joe Betro (bass/vox). After a brief spurt of enthusiastic performances in 2009 (which were relatively well received on the London toilet scene) they put the band on a back burner and remained dormant until Paul Andrews (of Miss Bromley fame) took over bass in summer of 2011. They have been infrequently active since then and are the UK's principle exponents of the Power Pop/Prog Rock/Metal/Jazz subgenre (Power Prog Metazz? Or perhaps just Weird Pop…) They wield an eclectic repertoire of original material which tends towards humourous and unusual subject matters, such as zombies, the Romans and declining mental health. Their live performances are often in Croydon or its surrounding environs and frequently involve costumes, especially for Halloween and Christmas. Although their gigs are fun (and often a bit crazy), they still take the music seriously (a la Bonzo Dog Band/Elton John/Madness) and have been compared to artists as disparate as Elvis Costello, Gong and Frank Zappa.
