Prisoners

Prisoners designate at least 4 musical ensembles: 1. Prisoners is a designation used in material recorded by Alan Lomax in U.S, penitentiaries from the 1930s to the 1950s for the Library of Congress as part of its folksong collection project. Used on the album "Negro Prison Songs from the Mississippi State Penitentiary Recorded by Alan Lomax". 2. Medway Delta, England (1980- 1986) The Prisoners we're one of the best UK Garage/Mod revival band from the 80's. Infected by 60's mod sounds of acts such as The Kinks, Pretty Things, Action, Small Faces, Booker T. & The MGs... The Prisoners have found their own way through 80's revivalism. Formed in Rochester,Kent, in 1980, by 1986. they recorded four Lps: A Taste of Pink! '82, TheWiserMiserDemelza '83, The Last Fourfathers '85. and In From the Cold '86. With great keyboard [James Taylor] guitar [Graham Day] colaboration they made some superfine melodic garage/mod tunes as Mourn My Health, Whenever I'm Gone, Melanie, Nobody Wants Your Love, Come Closer, Hurricane... This British quartet from Medway Delta are the ones that inspire the sound of today. American Bands like the White Stripes, The Killers to Euro bands like Coldplay, Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene. Even in the late 80's Manchester bands like The Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets and The Charlatans UK all owe it to The Prisoners. (*mreliminator.blogspot.com) 3.
