Ramasutra


Ramachandra Borcar, aka Ramasutra, is a man who wears many hats; he is at once a musician, composer and producer, as well as the owner of two record labels - Semprini Records and Signed By Force. As an artist, his work mixes ethnic techno, Science Fiction vibes, a Spaghetti Western ethos and a retro-70's spy fascination. Born in Montreal of an Indian father and a Danish mother, he had a diverse musical career. After studying music composition and electro-acoustic music at McGill University, he went on to create scores for film, television, documentaries, commercials and the theatre. Under the name Ramasutra, he released his self-produced debut album The East Infection in 1999 and the follow up El Pipo Del Taxi in 2003. His debut won a Felix Award in 2000 (amongst three nominations including best arranger), two Mimi awards for album of the year and best live show, and a Juno nomination for best alternative album. His second release won a Mimi award for best producer. He has frequently collaborated with female vocalist Marcia Seebarab, and has opened for Bjork and Asian Dub Foundation.
