Smartzee


Born in 1980 in Benin (Africa), Smartzee moved at an early age from Africa to the USA and later at the age of 10 to France. He us now living in Switzerland. “Life is music, music is life” is the motto of French-American artist Smartzee who defines himself as a globe trotter. As well as being a rapper, he represents the new generation of artists who mix different sounds together with a steady open ear and lay their vocals and lyrics on any type of music. Smartzee has made an appearance in Gilles Luka's pop-rock and house music album (Galleon “so I begin”, ) and delivered verse on a remake of Cindy Lauper's 'Time after Time'. Back in Los Angeles Smartzee got introduced to legendary producer Fredwreck (Dr Dre, Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, Hilary Duff) from which followed a collaboration and friendship, leading Smartzee to meet iconic rappers such as Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Cypress Hill and Eminem. This explains the westcoast influence in his rap. Smartzee also performed rap-feature of the single “Et c’est parti” by French R&B singer Nadiya. The record came out in Europe in 2004 and sold half a million copies and was labelled French most broadcasted song on worldwide radios in 2005. With the success of the first album, the record company Columbia asked Smartzee again to collaborate in a new record with Nadiya on the following year.
