Tuqe

Tuqe began as a bedroom recording project between two college friends, PJ and Tim, in Kalamazoo, MI. Tuqe started experimenting with a cheap reel-to-reel and they began using it as a 4 track in conjunction with a cheap Radio Shack DJ mixer to document musical ideas inspired by tons of synth pop, soft rock, and minimal techno; experimenting with cheap synths, microphones, found sound. Even though only active for brief moment before retiring the moniker in 2003 shortly after Detroit label Audiopants released their Empire of the Whale EP, Tuqe's recordings are an interesting time capsule of a band using the means they had (borrowed laptop, cracked fruity loops software, cheap mics, said mixer and reel-to-reel) and making them work before everyone had garageband and ableton. In that time they played shows in living rooms, kitchens, art galleries, as well as in "clubs". They once opened for Gary Jibilian (!). Read more on Last.fm.
