Çopî
Çopî (also spelled Chopy; whole name: Chopy Fatah) is a contemporary Kurdish singer. She was born in Kirkuk, Iraqi-Kurdistan in 1983 and her family emigrated to the Netherlands in 1988. She released her first album titled Çît Naw Binêm in 2003. Since Çopî was little she always like music and singing. She started singing in a coir in Heiloo in Holland. Sometimes they gave solo’s to Çopî. She won the first price at school at a singing contest and she used to sang on music performances at school. When she was 13 years she took singing lessons for 2 years and started taking keyboard lessons as well. When she was 16 years old she went to the Academy in Cologne (Germany) to start singing in Kurdish. There she studied under the supervision of the Kurdish music teacher Mr. Wirya Ahmad. She performed on stage for the first time in The Hague, The Netherlands in 2000. Her first performance in Kurdistan was in a coir with Koma Berxwedan at a festival for approximately 100.000 people in a football stadiun; there, she learned a lot. At the age of 16 she participated for the first time in a TV-program titled Shanasin (Shanisheen) on MedyaTV. After this she did more television performances. Çopî’s songs are played on all the Kurdish TV stations such as KTV, Medya TV and Kurdsat. Her first CD was released under supervision of Mr. Burhan Mofti in 2003.
