Gaitana Essami (Ukrainian: Гайтана Ессамі, born on March 24, 1979 in Kyiv) is an Ukrainian soul and rnb singer-songwriter. Her music combines elements of jazz, funk, soul, and folk music. Gaitana was born in Kyiv, but subsequently moved to the Congo where her father was born, for five years. Afterwards, Gaitana moved back to Ukraine with her mother, but her father stayed in Brazzaville. Gaitana's singing career begins in 1991 with Fant-loto Nadezhda children's musical TV contest where she took third place. After that Ukrainian composer Vladimir Bystryakov (Владимир Быстряков) invited her to join Altana band. During her career she also collaborated with Overtime jazz orchestra and Unity jazz-pop band. On November 2003 in «Lavina Music» studio she recorded her début album О тебе (About You). Gaitana writes most of her songs herself, using piano and also not a very usual “music instrument” Dictaphone for humming the melody in an instrumental part.
