When I (Ralf) decided to move to the UK in 2000 that, among other things, meant the end of Orwell Nation. While Mark continued with Shikari & Grinding Halt and Johan went on to form 'The People Listening, Wonder', Jos (Seein' Red), Edo (The Barnhouse Effect) & Rogier (Betercore), decided to start a new band together. They got together with Thale (The Barnhouse Effect, Black Decades) and Nico (Cathode) and formed what was to become KRIEGSTANZ. I returned to Holland some months later to catch their first gig and was blown away. With members consisting of some of my best friends, who I knew had a no bullshit, no held back, no compromise approach to punk, lyrics and politics I could get behind fully – it was pretty obvious from the start that as soon as plans for a record were mentioned, I’d be involved in releasing it. On the recordings for this 10”,they still had two bass guitars, 2 guitars and three people screaming their guts out. Edo left for Berlin a little while after, leaving them one bassist down, but the band continued until 2005 with the general approach and sound staying the same. I managed to catch them live quite a few more times since that 1st gig – and they were always great. I have especially fond memories of their 3 day UK tour with the mighty Seein' Red – as a bunch of us from Brighton, having sorted out their transport, came along for what turned out to be a very memorable and inspiring weekend.
