Arabesque


There are at least seven artists that go by the name Arabesque. 1) A German disco group, 2) A hip hop artist from Toronto, Ontario 3) A Dutch prog-metal band 4) A Siesta Records indie pop band lead by Keith Girdler and Paul Stewart, former members of Sarah Records band Blueboy (changing into Beaumont), 5) A traditional arabian group. 6) 1970s Progressive Rock band from Pittsburgh, PA 7) A deathcore/metal act from Texas 1) Arabesque was a famous German disco music group formed in 1977, consisting of Sandra Cretu (joined the group in 1979), Jasmin Vetter, and Michaela Rose. After a split in 1984 Jasmin Vetter and Michaela Rose continued as the group Rouge, while Sandra Cretu started her career in the group Sandra with Michael Cretu. Arabesque was popular in Japan, selling more than 6 million albums there. They also had success in the USSR. In 1980 the single Take Me Don't Break Me became a hit, which only scraped the German Top 40. Their next single, Marigot Bay, would become their single Top Ten hit a few weeks later. Their last singles Ecstasy and Time to Say Goodbye, turned hits after their split, on various central, south and east European countries, because they sounded very close to the Italo-disco sound, a very popular music genre of the European Discotheques at that time.
