Doce


The band was formed in 1979, made of the singers Fátima Padinha, Teresa Miguel (these two were part of Gemini before), Helena Coelho and Laura Diogo. In January 1980 the single Amanhã de Manhã (the entry for OSC26 and their most famous song in Portugal) is released. In the same year they entered Festival da Canção with the song Doce, ending in 2nd place. In March 1980 their first album, OK KO was released. They went back to the Festival da Canção in 1981 with the song Ali-Babá (Um Homem das Arábias), and they got the 4th place. In October 1981 they released the album É Demais. In 1982 they won the Festival da Canção with Bem Bom, going then to Harrogate for the Eurovision Song Contest where they ended in 13th place. That song is one of the fan favourites still these days, and it's played every year in Euroclub. In 1983 they recorded some songs in English, and the unforgettable Quente, Quente, Quente. In 1984 they participated once again in the Festival da Canção, with the song O Barquinho da Esperança. They ended their career in 1987 with the compilation Doce 1979-87.
