Gammalapagos


The band Gammalapagos was founded in Leipzig, Germany in 1999 on the occasion of a school project. The original line-up consisted of Jonas Fröbel (Voc, Git), Robert Junge (Git, Synth), Lars Wollmann (Bass) and Fabian Geyer (Drums). In the beginning the four school mates covered songs which can be described as (pop)rock/punk. They called themselves Lunchbox. The band began to perform live at school events and composed first songs which stylistically are close to the songs they covered earlier. In 2002 the band took part in several band contests. Among them Soundcheck in Dresden, New Chance in Halle and Local Heroes in Salzwedel which they won. This success earned the band some new listeners and another CD production which becomes a four song single called Pieces of a music. Following this the band was asked to play at the Ringfest within the famous music festival Popkomm in Cologne. This happend in 2003. The same year the band gets to know Michael Gabriel at a gig in Halle, a Scottish musician and owner of a studio. He becomes their mentor and manager and Gammalapagos record their first album aaaao in his studio in Halle in summer 2003. It is released by Vervetone the indie label that Gabriel founded himself. In 2004 the four band members moved to Leipzig where they played at the city's local clubs. The recordings for the ten tracks of the second LP Happily Ever After, that was somewhat more time-consuming than the previous ones, lasted from summer 2004 to spring 200...
