Svarun is a symphonic progressive metal act from Novi Sad, south-western Slavia, founded in October, 2008. The line-up consists of Nikola Pacek-Vetnić (music, orchestration, lyrics, drums, recording vocals), Đorđe Marković (vocals, graphics), Dragana Paunović (vocals, recording vocals, vocal coaching), and Marko Tatalović (sound design, mixing, production, recording guitars), backed up when needed by guest musicians. Svarun was created out of the need for a quality metal ensemble capable of creating and performing music similar to what we usually listen to, thematically concentrated on the collective history of all Slavic nations, always stressing out the message of peace and brotherhood in our lyrics. Searching for the sound that would suit this purpose most, we came, on one end, to the contemporary metal music such as Symphony X, Therion, Kamelot, Adagio, while, at the same time, we were lead to the classical music of the past, written by authors such as Tchaikovsky, Gustav Mahler, Igor Stravinsky, and others. Also, in our belief that the metal genre is over-saturated by quasi-virtuoso instrumental music, we have emphasized the vocal element of music, thus we are one of the few bands that feature five singers in its line-up.
